Major Italian energy company Enel is believed to be considering making offers to French electricity supplier EDF for its Strasbourg and Metz regional network companies.

French financial daily MF has reported that EDF is considering selling its 75% stake in its Electricite de Strasbourg regional distribution network, sparking Enel’s interest.

The development follows the electricity provider’s recent partial flotation and comes at a time when pressure on the French government from the EU to liberalize its energy market has never been higher. EDF is yet to reveal its evaluation for the north-eastern regional business.

Meanwhile, continuing the divestment trend, EDF is also believed to be looking for a buyer for its Usine d’Electricite de Metz division, with Enel again the main interested party. On top of this the French power incumbent has reportedly already sold its share of Pego power station in Portugal in the last few days.
