The company secured the right to sign 20-year energy supply contracts for the 254MW Ituverava PV development and 90MW Delfina wind project.
Together, the two projects are expected to cost about $600m, of which around $400m will be used for the PV project and $200m for the wind farm development.
Both the projects, which will be built in the state of Bahia, will generate about 900GWh of sustainable energy per year.
The projects will help to meet Brazil’s demand for new energy, which is expected to increase at an average annual rate of 4% through 2020.
EGP said the supply contracts awarded to it envisage the sale of specified volumes of electricity generated by both the plants to the Brazilian Chamber of Commercialization of Electric Energy (CCEE РCamara de Comercializa̤ao da Energia Eletrica).
Brazil has over 98,000MW of installed renewable capacity, corresponding to about 85% of the country’s total installed capacity.
The country awarded PPAs for 31 PV projects, totaling 890MW, in its auction for reserve power held in October 2014.
EGP has around 750 plants operating in 16 countries in the Americas and Europe.
The company’s installed capacity as of 30 June 2014 includes about 9,150MW from a mix of sources such as wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal, and biomass.
