Enel Green Power has connected its new hydroelectric power plant to the grid in Guatemala, in the Department of Quiche.

The fully operational Palo Viejo plant will be able to produce 370 million kWh each year, avoiding the atmospheric emission of 280 thousand tonnes of CO2 each year.

The new run-of-the-river plant has a total capacity of 85MW.

The construction of the plant was supported by Simest, the public-private finance institution which promotes the international development of Italian enterprises.

Enel Green Power CEO Francesco Starace said the entry into service of the new plant has further increased the company’s zero-emissions capacity in Guatemala.

Enel Green Power is the Enel Group company dedicated to the development and management of renewable energy sources in Italy and across the globe.
