Enel Green Power RSA has grid connected the 82.5MW Paleisheuwel solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Western Cape province, South Africa.

Paleisheuwel is Enel’s largest solar facility in South Africa and is supported by a 20-year power supply agreement (PPA) with Eskom.

The PPA is part of the country’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) tender promoted by the South African government.

The Paleisheuwel solar plant is capable of producing over 153GWh of energy per year, enough to power about 48,000 homes in South Africa..

The facility can also reduce more than 140,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

EGP RSA currently owns and operates the 10MW Upington solar plant in the Northern Cape, and has a further 430MW of projects under construction.

The projects under construction include the 82.5MW Adams, 82.5MW Pulida and 66MW Tom Burke solar plants and the 88MW Nojoli and 111MW Gibson Bay wind farms.

Enel was also awarded a further five wind projects for a total capacity of 705MW after the fourth phase of REIPPPP tender.

Upon completion of all the projects, the total capacity of Enel Green Power in South Africa would reach about 1.2GW.
