Endesa Trading has won 20MW of base-load capacity in Germany for 2009 at a virtual capacity auction held by RWE. The firm won the maximum capacity it was entitled to bid for under the terms of the auction.

Endesa Trading and Endesa Energia, both subsidiaries of Spanish utility Endesa, participated in the auction. This new capacity will reportedly enable the company to supply electricity to its customers in Germany, where it does not have physical installations.

The auction, the first held by RWE in Germany, was held on February 13, 2008. In all, 393MW of capacity was auctioned off.

Additionally, RWE plans to hold a series of capacity auctions covering 2009-12. In all, it will auction off 1,575MW of capacity. The over-riding purpose of these auctions is to provide direct access to end customers at competitive prices.
