The board of directors has approved the development of 36 power projects in Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia.
Currently at different development stages, the projects are planned to be developed based on natural gas and hydropower, which have potential economic feasibility, the company said.
Endesa is planning to build 23 projects, with a total capacity of 3,000MW, in Chile; 64% of them will be hydro-based and 36% natural gas-based.
The power projects planned to be developed in Peru, Colombia and Brazil will have a generation capacity of 3,300MW; 40% will be hydro, 55% gas and 5% coal.
Over the next five years, the company plans to develop 3,100MW of power projects in Peru, Colombia and Brazil and 2,200MW of projects in Chile.
Endesa said in a statement: "Each new project will be approached with a methodology called Strategic Plan of Sustainable Development that includes propositions like early engagement with communities, permanent relationship with them and the implementation of creating shared value (CSV) plans in areas where the company is planning to locate projects.
"The company has stated that the projects will be only carried out if they receive community approval."
In addition to these, the company is already constructing the 150MW Los Cóndores hydroelectric plant in Chile, and the 400MW El Quimbo hydroelectric project in Colombia.
