Acquired from the consortium partners STRABAG and the Norderland/ETANAX Group, the wind farm covers an area of 39km² at a water depth of 39m to 40m.
Scheduled to be constructed adjacent to EnBW’s Hohe See project offering synergies in the construction and operating phases, the Albatros project has a permit to install 79 turbines with a capacity of 5MW to 7MW.
EnBW chief executive officer Frank Mastiaux said: "We are expanding our offshore wind portfolio with the acquisition of the Albatros project and thus continuing to push forward our EnBW 2020 strategy.
"The offshore wind sector will play a significant role in achieving our goal of more than tripling the area of renewable energies by 2020."
The acquisition brings EnBW’s total offshore portfolio to over 1,600MW in the German sector of the North Sea.
