Canada-based energy firm Enbridge has completed its 250MW Cedar Point wind energy project in Limon in the US state of Colorado.

Electricity generated by the $535m project will be purchased by a subsidiary of Xcel Energy under a long term contract.

The wind farm, which is the company’s first wind energy project in the US, will produce enough power to meet the needs of about 80,000 homes and avoid about 783,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Enbridge partnered with Renewable Energy Systems Americas for the development and construction of the Cedar Point wind project.

The renewable and alternative energy portfolio of Enbridge includes interests in seven wind energy projects, three solar farms, a geothermal plant, four waste heat recovery facilities and fuel cell technology.
