Belgian utility Electrabel has taken control of an 80 MW wind farm in Portugal from its Spanish partner Gamesa at a cost of €104 million.

The move forms part of a 2002 collaboration agreement with Electrabel which specifies that Gamesa is to develop and build wind farms with a total capacity of up to 252 MW, which Electrabel will acquire as and when they are put into operation.

Under the terms of this agreement Electrabel has now acquired ownership of a first farm of 40 wind turbines of 2 MW each, in Fafe, Portugal. Construction of the wind turbines began in March 2004, the remaining turbines will enter service in 2006 and 2007.
