An Bord Pleanála has approved EirGrid's €80m Laois-Kilkenny reinforcement project in Ireland.

The project includes a new 110/38kV substation at Ballyragget in Kilkenny and a new 400/110kV substation at Coolnabacky in Laois, with a 26km line linking the two stations.

RTE News reported that EirGrid said the Laois-Kilkenny reinforcement project is a necessary enhancement of the transmission system for the midlands and southeast.

The Ballyragget to Kilkenny line will also be upgraded as part of the project.

EirGrid is the state owned independent transmission system operator and market operator in Ireland.

The company’s role, through the Grid25 program, is to deliver quality connection, transmission, and market services to electricity generators, suppliers and customers utilizing the high voltage electricity system.
