The project is financed by the EBRD’s Ukraine Sustainable Energy Lending Facility.
The biomass power plant will be located in Ivankiv village, Kyiv region with an expected generating capacity of over 120GWh of clean energy by processing annually around 210,000 tonnes of firewood, reject wood and residual biomass from forest management.
The plant, which is scheduled to be operational by the middle of 2014, will also create over 200 new jobs in the rural area.
Besides, the company is also planning to build up to five similar biomass power plants with an aggregate capacity of 50MW in regions of northern Ukraine.
