Under this initiative, EDTA will recruit foundations, companies and other organizations to provide a range of education and outreach programs designed to extend the demand of plug-in EVs beyond first adopters to reach millions of potential car buyers.

The initiative will also include the development of a new consumer-oriented website with inputs from more than 60 companies and organizations to provide concise and timely information on purchasing, owning and operating plug-in EVs.

In addition, EDTA will facilitate inter-industry and inter-governmental collaborations to establish best practices, uniform standards, and incentives to accelerate acceptance of plug-in EVs and develop educational materials about EVs for state and local officials, fleet operators, managers and retailers.

EDTA also seeks to educate consumers about EVs by ensuring increased participation from non-profits, grassroots organizations and the general public in EDTA annual conference, the EVS-2012 international conference and at North American auto shows

EDTA president Brian Wynne said that this initiative aims to speed the transition to electric drive and help achieve the full environmental, economic and national security benefits of electrifying the transportation sector.
