EMG will own and operate the $145m Broken Bow Wind project, which will produce about 80MW of electricity.

Under a 20-year power purchase agreement, NPPD will buy the power generated by Broken Bow.

NPPD president and CEO Pat Pope said the energy produced will be shared with other Nebraska utilities.

NPPD is also collaborating with Omaha Public Power District, Lincoln Electric System, Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska and the City of Grand Island as partners in the project.

Construction of Broken Bow is scheduled to be completed by November of 2012, and the facility will produce enough energy to meet the needs of about 25,000 homes in Nebraska.

Placed on 14,000-acre land, the facility will use 50 wind turbines, each capable of producing 1.6MW of power at peak output.
