The California-based company Edison Mission Energy is to buy the 1884 MWe Homer City power station from the plant’s current owners, GPU Inc and the New York State Electric and Gas Corp. The transaction is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 1999.

The plant is located in Pennsylvania, 72 km northeast of Pittsburgh. It has direct high voltage access to both the New York Power Pool and the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland power pool.

The new owner expects to invest heavily in the plant in order, it hopes, to be able to operate it profitably as a low-cost source of power in the mid-Atlantic region of the USA.
