The public consultation on the project was published in April 2008. Following the outcome of the consultation, EDF and the Dunkirk Port Authority (PAD) have defined compensatory and accompanying measures based on the environmental, economic and social dimensions of the project.
Specifically, the ground installations at the facility have been adapted to minimize the environmental impact and to preserve local fauna and flora.
Studies will continue before a final investment decision is made at the end of 2009, with a view to commissioning the terminal in 2013. Dunkerque LNG, a wholly owned subsidiary of EDF, will be responsible for construction and operation of the facility, which will have an annual capacity of between nine and 10 billion cubic meters.
This project is part of the EDF Group’s strategy to safeguard supply by increasing gas capacities, both for its own electricity generation requirements, and to expand its commercial electricity and gas offers.
