FRANCE • DEREGULATION The French state electricity company Electricité de France (EDF) is to sell a further 500 MW of generating capacity, having already sold 1200 MW during September. The new capacity will be offered in December.

The utility is planning to dispose of 6000 MW of capacity by the end of 2003. This will represent around one third of the French electricity market and must be sold in order for EDF to obtain European Commission approval for its acquisition of a 34.5 per cent stake in the German energy company EnBW.
