The Crown Commercial Service, a Government agency which provides commercial and procurement services for Government departments and the UK public sector, has renewed its agreement with EDF Energy.

The renewal contract follows a 10-year agreement signed in 2013 to supply Network Rail.

Under the recent four-year contract, EDF Energy will continue to supply electricity to buildings and sites across central and local government.

The company will supply about 9.6 TWh of electricity a year which is equivalent to power supply for 2.3 million UK homes.

EDF Energy CEO Vincent de Rivaz said: "We are also committed to tackling climate change and helping our customers reduce their energy consumption.

"That is why we will offer our expertise to support the Government’s drive for increased energy efficiency."

Crown Commercial Service commercial delivery executive director Matt Denham said: "This agreement will provide the public sector with a cost effective solution for their electricity requirements.

"Awarded following a competitive tender process, it will deliver improved value for the taxpayer whilst helping customers to use energy more efficiently and manage their demand to reduce their overall energy costs."
