In an email to the company’s 15,000 staff, the CEO said that people voting for the independence referundum on Thursday had huge responsibility and the outcome "will affect EDF Energy and its employees". Of the 15,000 employees, the company has 1,200 staff working in Scotland.
Although it was not his place "to tell voters how they should vote", de Rivaz told the employees that he had to defend the interests of the company.
While the chief executive had been able to secure assurances that the company’s two nuclear power plants would continue the operations in Scotland, there were several other questions that are left unanswered, reports The Telegraph.
These issues include how an independent Scotland would regulate the nuclear power facilities, how waste disposed by the Scottish nuclear facilties would be handled; and if there would be only one electricity wholesale market across Great Britain.
Besides 1,200 employees who work at its nuclear plants and an engineering centre in Scotland, the company has around 500 contractors.
