French renewable energy producer EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) plans to acquire the wind energy portfolio of Séchilienne Sidec in France for €59m.

The wind generating assets total 56.5MW as well as those under-development totaling 60MW.

Sechilienne intends to use funds from the transaction to focus on biomass and solar power generation.

The acquisition is consistent with EDF’s goal to further develop its business while consolidating its presence in France.

EDF EN strategy, M&A and DSSA executive VP Emmanuel Jaclot stated, "Organic growth is the focus of our expansion model, but we are open to opportunities helping us not only to accelerate our growth, but also to step up our operations & maintenance activities."

The company’s subsidiary, EDF EN Services, will progressively take over the operation and maintenance services at these wind farms.

Earlier, EDF EN acquired 20% interest in 32 wind farms from Iberdrola in France.
