The company that already owned 51% of the project has exercised the purchase option for the remaining stake to expand its energy capacity in US state of Texas. Spur II is located in Oldham County.
With this project, the company expects to increase its power generation capacity to 472MW in the state.
EDF Renewable Energy president and CEO Tristan Grimbert stated that its third project in the state reflects its confidence in the growth and construction potential of the state.
"In 2011, we determined to enter the Texas market with Spinning Spur I, and are pleased to build upon this success and increase our investment in Oldham County," added Grimbert.
EDF is keen to commence the construction of the project in June 2013, and expects that the project would be fully operational by mid-summer 2014.
Spinning Spur II will be one of the first projects to take advantage of the new Competitive Renewable Energy Zones transmission line in the panhandle. The electricity generated will be sold under a ten-year energy purchase agreement.
Meanwhile, the company has also signed a supply agreement with General Electric (GE) for the purchase of 87 wind turbines with a rated capacity of 1.85 MW each
