The 87MW project, which is scheduled for operation by 2014, is expected to cost the company additional $130m – $150m for the expansion. The company had already made an investment of $300m for the project.
Confirming the plans, EDC president Richard Tantoco said the company is excited about the wind with its expansion plans of Burgos project plans.
"We’ll issue notice to proceed on the first 87 MW and then, as soon as we can amend on some of the permits, we can go to a full 150 MW. The issuance of notice to proceed is not going happen in the next two to three weeks," revealed Tantoco.
Further, EDC has contracted Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas to provide additional turbines for the expansion.
"The team is working now with Vestas for additional turbines.
"The thing that makes us excited about Burgos is I think we’re the only ones in the country that has seven years wind data. It’s all onshore," added Tantoco.
Following the operational commencement of the project, Burgos is estimated to generate about 233GWh annually to provide power to 1 million households.
