Ecuador has joined a growing number of developing countries that has adopted a system of feed-in tariffs to support renewable energy development.
Ecuador’s electricity authority adopted the new regulations that will help to support the growth of a variety of renewable energy technologies in both continental Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, according to a report from PV Magazine.
Technologies covered by the regulations include photovoltaics (PV), wind and geothermal energy. Biomass and hydropower projects are also included and are differentiated by size.
For all technologies the feed-in tariffs are set for 15 years, and on continental Ecuador range from $0.0621/kWh for hydropower projects of 30-50MW in size, to $0.4003/kWh for PV projects.
