Professor Ignacio Rodriguez-Iturbe of Princeton University, US, is the winner of the 2002 Stockholm Water Prize.

Rodriquez-Iturbe is one of the world best-known hydrologists. A mathematical model developed by the professor is used throughout the world for forecasting river flows and variation in water levels.

Recently, Rodriguez-Iturbe has defined the concept of eco-hydrology to explain the interaction of the atmosphere and the hydrology with plants and soil in a natural system.

The US$150,000 Stockholm Water Prize has been presented by the Stockholm Water Foundation for the last 12 years. It recognises outstanding research, action or education that increases knowledge of water as a resource.
