TOO Vodnye Resoursy Marketing will use €10m for modernizing the water and wastewater services in the southern city of Shymkent.
The Government of Kazakhstan will provide a €8m capital grant and TOO Vodnye will invest €500,000 into the project.
Another company Akbulak will also receive €10m from the EBRD to modernize the water and wastewater services in the city Aktobe.
A capital grant of €6.7m will come from the state budget, while the Akimat local regional government will provide co-financing of €1.7m for the project.
Akbulak will also increase efficiency and reduce water losses apart from introducing a public service contract which will help increase operational efficiency.
EBRD president Suma Chakrabarti said: "Aktobe and Shymkent are the first two cities in Kazakhstan where we will be working together with the government and the local authorities under the Enhanced Partnership to improve the quality of water and related services."
The EBRD and Kazakhstan are working on several other joint projects under the Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Modernisation Framework under the Enhanced Partnership umbrella.
