The new EBRD investment with a sovereign guarantee to the State Unitary Enterprise Khojagii Manziliyu Kommunali will be used for on-lending to water companies in Gissar, Shachrinav, Somoniyon and Tursunzoda.
The EU Investment Facility for Central Asia will also provide EUR6m ($8.1m) grant for the same project.
The project will also receive the approved grant of $2.6m from the EBRD Shareholder Special Fund.
With the help of significant technical cooperation, funded by the EBRD and international donors, the water companies will be able to improve their performance.
The existing EBRD-financed projects in the municipal infrastructure in Tajikistan concentrate on improving water supply and wastewater services, as well as improving solid waste management and public transport services.
