Mothballed Killingholme power station has been returned to full service by E.On UK, the company that owns Powergen.

The two unit 900 MW gas-fired station, based in Lincolnshire, was shutdown in 2002 and is believed to be the first to be completely returned to operations after an extended period out of service. Work to bring the station back to service has been continuing for a year.

The station’s control system has also been updated so that E.On UK’s gas-fired Cottam Development Centre (CDC) in Nottinghamshire can be controlled remotely by staff at Killingholme.

One of the station’s two 450 MW units returned to service in April this year.
