The city of Dusseldorf is to spend around $50 million to build a combined cycle power plant. The new plant will replace an existing coal fired power station.

Its installation will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.5 million t each year.

The general contractor for the 100 MW project is Lentjes Energietechnik, which will be cooperating with Siemens on the project. The new power station, which is due to enter service in January 2000, will have a design efficiency of 54 per cent.
