The $1.9bn seven-year plan, filed with the Indiana state utility regulators, includes advanced technology and infrastructure upgrades in order to enhance service to its customers and provide better information about their energy use.

Duke Energy Indiana president Doug Esamann said: "With advanced systems, we can pinpoint problems faster and get the lights on sooner while providing customers with better information."

Some of the new plan benefits include fewer and shorter power outages, fewer estimated customer bills, quicker service, faster outage identification, better information for customers to manage their energy use, energy savings and improved power reliability and safety.

The company’s operations provide approximately 800,000 customers in a 23,000 square-mile service area with about 7,500MW of electricity.
