Duke Energy Renewables, a commercial business unit of Duke Energy, will acquire a 20MW wind farm in the US state of Wisconsin from a subsidiary of Central Hudson Enterprises.

The Shirley wind energy project, located on nearly 500 acres of leased land in Glenmore, began commercial operation in December 2010.

The power project, which comprises of eight units of Nordex 2.5MW wind turbine, generates enough electricity to power about 6,000 homes.

Wisconsin Public Service Corp buys all of the facility’s output and associated renewable energy credits under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The acquisition of the Shirley power project is expected to be closed this year.

Central Hudson Enterprises is a unit of US-based regulated transmission and distribution utility CH Energy Group.
