Denmark-based Vestas will deliver 55 2MW turbines for the wind farm, which is expected to be completed in late 2015.
Duke Energy Renewables will own and operate the wind farm, which will provide enough energy for about 33,000 homes.
Garland Power & Light, Greenville Electric Utility System and Bryan Texas Utilities have agreed to buy energy generated from the facility under 25-year contracts.
Duke Energy Renewables president Greg Wolf said: "We’re proud to be partnering with these progressive utilities to make renewable energy more widely available to their customers.
"One of the key advantages of our Los Vientos projects is they generate the majority of their power during the day, when customer demand is greatest."
Duke Energy Renewables, part of Duke Energy’s commercial businesses, develops wind and solar energy projects across the US.
Prior to Los Vientos V wind farm, Duke Energy is also developing the 200MW Los Vientos I, 202MW Los Vientos II, 200MW Los Vientos III and 200MW Los Vientos IV wind power projects in Texas.
The company’s total wind-generated capacity in the US will exceed 2100MW once Los Vientos III and Los Vientos IV and Los Vientos V become operational.
Duke Energy is also developing the 14MW Blue Wing solar power project and the 36MW Notrees battery storage project in Texas.
