The acquired projects include the 20MW Seville I and 30MW Seville II projects, situated in Imperial County around 10 miles west of the Salton Sea.

It brings Duke Energy Renewables’ solar capacity in California to more than 100MW at six sites, generating enough energy to meet the need of around 23,000 households.

San Diego Gas & Electric will buy the energy produced by Seville I and related renewable energy credits under a 20-year agreement.

The output of Seville II project will be purchased by Imperial Irrigation District through a 25-year agreement.

Construction on both the projects is underway with planned completion by the end of this year.

Duke Energy president of commercial portfolio Greg Wolf said: "The Seville projects are a sizeable addition to our California solar portfolio; they will almost double our solar capacity in the state.

"We’re pleased to be adding quality projects that will bring economic development to Imperial County and contribute to California’s leadership in renewable energy growth."

Duke Energy Renewables is part of Duke Energy’s commercial portfolio. Its portfolio of commercial renewable assets includes 16 wind farms and 27 solar farms operating in 12 states.
