The commission accepted the settlement among Duke Energy Carolinas, the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff, and Walmart Stores East.

The company will increase its customer rates in South Carolina by $92.8m, with an allowed return on common equity of 10.5% and a 53% equity component of the capital structure.

According to the company, the specific increase for individual customers will vary, depending on the rate they pay and other factors, and the new rates will go into effect on 6 February 2012.

Residential customers who use 1,000kWh of electricity per month will see a 7.1% increase while commercial, industrial and lighting customers will see a 5.2%, a 5.1% and a 5.8% increase, respectively.
