SOLON will also build the solar project and continue to handle operations, monitoring and maintenance of the system, which is powered by its single-axis tracking technology.
Duke Energy Renewables president Greg Wolf said the acquisition expands the company’s footprint in the western US and helps a premier Arizona energy service provider deliver affordable, zero-emission renewable power to its customers.
"Comprised of more than 40,000 solar panels, the Black Mountain project is expected to produce enough electricity to power about 2,000 homes," said Wolf.
Under a 20-year power purchase agreement, the electricity produced by the project, which will come online in October 2012, will be sold to UniSource Energy Services.
Duke Energy Renewables, is part of Duke Energy’s Commercial Businesses.
