DTE Energy plans to install 3MW of solar panels this year and 12MW by 2014.

The company will own and operate the PV systems, which will be ground-mounted or on rooftops of commercial and industrial customers, or at DTE Energy locations.

With the electricity produced from the proposed solar energy installations, the company expects to meet Michigan’s new renewable portfolio standard, which calls for 10% of a utility’s retail electric sales to come from renewable resources by 2015.

DTE Energy provides gas and electric utility services and energy-related services.
