The renewable power from the Stockton biomass facility in northern California is being sold to PG&E Company to help it meet its renewable energy requirement.
The plant will use about 320,000 tons of woody biomass fuel annually, primarily derived from urban wood waste, tree trimmings and agricultural processes.
About 320,000t of woody biomass fuel will be sued annually by the plant to generate about 45MW of power.
DTEES wholesale power & renewables vice president Steve Sorrentino said, "We are excited to have this green energy plant operational and appreciate the support we’ve received from the Port of Stockton, local officials and community leaders to make it a reality."
In June 2010, DTEES purchased the plant, which began operation in 1989 as a coal-fired power plant and ceased operation in April 2009, with plans to convert it to biomass.
