The project is part of the desalination program launched by Masdar to test and develop energy-efficient seawater desalination technologies that can be delivered by renewable energy sources.

The program calls for a full-scale facility to start operations by 2020, with plans to deploy the best performing technologies in desalination plants throughout the UAE.

The project, which will run for 18 months, will cover the design, implementation, and maintenance of a desalination unit.

Technologies to be installed include Dow Filmtec Seamaxx and Dow Filmtec ECO elements.

The plant, which will be powered by renewable energy sources, will demonstrate the latest innovations in desalination treatments.

It will provide more energy efficiency than the existing desalination systems and will be suitable for the seawater and environmental conditions identified across the UAE.

Dow Water and Process Solutions EMEA commercial director Rajat Mehta said: "We are delighted to have been chosen by Degrémont to assist in the development of this project. We are very much looking forward to working together to provide innovative, sustainable solutions to improve water treatment technologies in the UAE."
