Under the terms of the contract, Doosan will be responsible for the design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the plant, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014.

The plant, which will utilize both evaporation and reverse-osmosis methods for desalinating water, will have a daily processing capacity of 1.036 million tons to supply drinking water to more than 3.5 million people in the Riyadh area.

With the development of this new plant, Doosan, which has secured desalination-related deals valued at $5.6bn since the mid-1990s from Middle Eastern countries, will reach a combined production capacity of 4.3 million tonnes each day.
