UK based engineering specialist Doosan Babcock signed, on 20 January, the EDF Energy Strategic Partnership for Lifetime Interface Agreement. The agreement fixes Doosan Babcock’s role as one of a select group of key suppliers – alongside Amec Foster Wheeler, Atkins and Cavendish Nuclear – working collaboratively to support EDF Energy’s lifetime extension objectives for its UK Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor nuclear power stations. The signing of the agreement follows on from the Lifetime Enterprise Agreement awarded to Doosan Babcock by EDF Energy in December 2013.
Doosan Babcock played a central role in the inception of the Strategic Partnership back in 2010, when EDF Energy identified key suppliers with the requisite skills, capability and knowledge to provide a collaborative approach to life extension services to its nuclear power stations. The Doosan Babcock LEA was the first in a series of lifetime agreements, culminating in a network of strategic partners.
Commenting on the agreement, Cameron Gilmour, Doosan Babcock’s Nuclear Service director, said: "We look forward to our continued work with EDF Energy and our peers in the Strategic Partnership to secure the safe and efficient operations of the UK nuclear fleet well into the future. Today’s agreement is great news for the UK supply chain and a positive step forward for the delivery of secure low carbon power for the UK."
