
Being built 33km from the German islands of Juist and Norderney, the wind farm features 97 turbines that will generate enough energy for 600,000 households.
The electricity generated by the wind farm will be converted from DC to AC for further transport by two substation platforms.
A joint venture of Cofely Fabricom and Iemants yards in Hoboken, Belgium built the separate high-voltage facilities for the 330MW and 252MW wind farms, which are expected to be operational in 2016.
Dong has also laid the first cables. Installation of foundations is underway since April this year with 42 steel pipes and transition pieces are already deployed.
Dong Energy managing director in Germany responsible for the offshore wind segment Trine Borum Bojsen said: "At all our previous wind farms, we have always only had one substation platform.
"But the Gode Wind 1 and 2 wind farm is special in many respects: with 97 wind turbines, it will be Germany’s largest offshore wind farm. For this reason we had to install two platforms for the first time."
The company intends to reduce the costs for its offshore wind farms by about 40% by 2020 compared to 2012.
