The lease area under New Jersey was initially acquired by RES in November 2015 through an auction.

Dong Energy says that RES will continue to support the development of the lease area under the agreement with it.

The New Jersey lease area has been renamed by Dong Energy as Ocean wind, which spans a total area of 160,480 acres and it is located about ten nautical miles offshore from New Jersey.

The total capacity potential of this offshore wind farm is about 1000MW which would be sufficient to supply electricity to about 500,000 US households.

For Dong Energy, the New Jersey deal is the second lease in the US.

The first lease in the US was obtained by Dong Energy after its first acquisition being approved by BOEM in June 2015, along the coast of Massachusetts.

Dong Energy North America, wind power general manager Thomas Brostrøm said: "DONG Energy’s entry into New Jersey is a great opportunity.

"As the world leader of offshore wind development, we look forward to expanding our profile in the U.S. and potentially building an industry."
