According to a filing with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), a loss of coolant flow resulted in the shut down of the power unit.
The Surry power plant has two triple-loop Westinghouse pressurized water reactors, each with a generating capacity of about 799MW.
The shut down has not affected the power station’s Unit 1 reactor, which continues to operate at 100% of capacity.
The power station lies on an 840-acre site adjacent to the James River.
