Dominion Energy has acquired two 5MW North Carolina solar plants such as Fremont solar farm in Wayne County and Moorings 2 solar facility in Lenoir County, US.
In the third quarter of 2017, the energy firm also has plans to purchase two more solar plants with a combined capacity of 10MW from Chapel Hill’s subsidiaries.
The solar portfolio of Dominion Energy has over 600MW of capacity, and an additional capacity of 500MW are under contract by the electric utilities of Dominion Energy in North Carolina and Virginia.
The combined capacity is expected to provide sufficient power to meet the requirements of over 275000 homes and businesses.
Dominion Energy business development & merchant operations Keith Windle said: "With these acquisitions, Dominion Energy is well on its way to bringing into service more than 700 megawatts of solar energy in North Carolina and Virginia by the end of 2018.
"We will continue to develop and acquire clean energy projects that help customers meet their energy needs."
The other two solar plants which Dominion will acquire are Clipperton solar facility in Sampson County and Pikeville project in Wayne County.
The firm has solar generating capacity of over 2000MW, which includes facilities in operation and plants under construction.
In July 2017, Dominion Energy has acquired a 10MW Clarke County solar plant from Hecate Energy, which is located in Clarke County in the US state of Virginia.
Dominion Energy has also acquired 80MW Amazon Solar Farm US East from Community Energy, a project developer, in November 2015.
