Jay kimberlite pipe is located in the southeastern portion of the Ekati mine property. It is approximately 25 km south-east of the Ekati main facilities and 7 km to the north-east of the Misery pit, in the Lac de Gras watershed.
The project will help extend the life of the Ekati Diamond mine till 2030, which is over 10 years of the specified current closure date.
DAR is submitted as part of the permitting process to develop Ekati Diamond mine, the largest diamondiferous resource in North America. Based on this, a decision is expected in 2015.
The project plans to build a water retention dike of 5km long with an average water depth of 5m. Jay project may start in 2016 and may continue till 2019. The production is expected to begin in 2020.
Jay Project has a 65.3% interest in Buffer Zone Joint Venture and is part of it.
