The milestone was achieved less than one year after fitting the dome on Taishan reactor 1 in October 2011, the owner and future site operator, Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company (TNPJVC) announced, 12 September. TNPJVC is 30 % owned by EDF and 70 % owned by its Chinese partner, the electricity company CGNPC

The installation marks the end of the major civil engineering works on the reactor buildings, AREVA said in a statement. It also said that the steam generators are due to be positioned in Taishan 1 in the ‘next few weeks.’

The two units at Taishan are slated to begin operation in December 2013 and November 2014. Their construction will take into account lessons learned from European projects at Olkiluoto 3 (Finland) and Flamanville 3 (France).
