The Rock Springs Uplift is home to a planned test site that will be drilled by a partnership led by the UW as well as Baker Hughes and other companies, according to theengineer.co.uk.

The Rock Springs Uplift features geologic formations that have been identified as among the most promising targets for storing CO2 in the state.

UW Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering professor and project leader said that a multidisciplinary research team will evaluate the amount of carbon that can be infused into the formations and if it can be permanently trapped with negligible leakage.

Experimental and modeling work will be conducted on reservoir rock samples that will be recovered from the stratigraphic test well.

The university is contributing an additional $1.37m to the project funded by the DOE for three years.
