The US Department of Energy (DOE) has offered a conditional loan guarantee of $45.6m to support the development of a 20MW (AC) solar power project in Nevada.

The photovoltaic (PV) facility, sponsored by Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, will be developed about 25 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

The power project will include over 90,000 polycrystalline silicon modules attached to single-axis horizontal tracker technology that will help the facility capture more energy than fixed-tilt PV systems.

The facility is expected to generate about 55,000MWh of electricity annually and avoid over 31,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

Electricity generated by the project will be purchased by Nevada Power Co, a subsidiary of NV Energy.

DOE is supporting the power project with funding from the 2009 Recovery Act.
