Energy certification body, DNV GL has awarded Voltamp Oman with two KEMA type test certificates for a 125 MVA large power transformer (LPT), the largest transformer ever built in the GCC and a 315 kVA neutral earthing transformer(EAT).

With over 35,000 installations in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region and partnerships with global leaders, Voltamp Group has become one of the leading companies in the MENA region in manufacturing and marketing an extensive range of power, distribution and special transformers, low and medium voltage switchgears and packaged substations, with manufacturing facilities in Sohar and Rusayl, Oman.

The transformers have been certified according to IEC standards: the 125 MVA 132kV Power Transformer, tested in accordance to IEC 60076-5 (2006), the 315 KVA 33kV three phase earthing transformer tested in accordance to IEC 60076 and as per the stringent criteria specified the Electricity Transmission Company of Oman.

This is the first ever earthing transformer to be tested at KEMA Laboratories for both Short circuit and for neutral fault current of magnitude 60000% of rated current. KEMA Laboratories’ team of experienced technical experts tested the transformers in the recently expanded KEMA High-Power Laboratory (HPL) in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

During this process, the components have been thoroughly tested to ensure the quality of the product relating to standards of safety, functionality and quality that are needed for use in the tough power environment.

Voltamp Oman CEO Hassan M.J. Abdwani said: “Electricity is essential to every aspect of modern life. Consequently, demand is growing fast – especially in the MENA region. To deal with this, power systems are being asked to do more and more.

"Our aim is to help our customers, like power utilities and network operators, to have uninterrupted and reliable electricity supply at homes, schools, hospitals, basically wherever we use power. A KEMA Type Test Certificate provides our customers the confidence that our tested components meet worldwide technical requirements and standards."

DNV GL’s KEMA Laboratories executive vice president Jacob Fonteijne said: “It’s been a pleasure to perform these tests for Voltamp Oman in this one stop shop assignment, providing the KEMA Type Test Certifications for these transformers which are so important for the reliability of the system in the region.

"We are proud that we could provide the confidence to Voltamp Oman and help them be succesfull in the market place. We look forward working with the Voltamp team on further certifications in the future.”

KEMA certification services are offered by DNV GL. Our specialized staff are internationally recognized for their quality and integrity in ensuring grid reliability through testing, inspection and certification.

KEMA Type Test Certificates are issued when a component successfully passes an internationally recognized type test program in the KEMA laboratories in the Netherlands, USA or the Czech Republic.
