Hungarian district heating utilities are expanding their commercial activities to include electricity generation, producing power to sell to the Hungarian network. This has been enabled by recent Hungarian legislation which permits district heating companies to sell up to 20MW of power to the grid.
Taking advantage of this new legislation, Sinergy Kft has placed an order with Finnish company Wartsila for two new power plants, in Kazincbarcika and Tiszaujvaros. The former will be supplied with two 18V220SG, 3.2MW gas engines and the latter will have three of the same engines. The units will be delivered this month with startup due in September. Wartsila has also signed a 10 year maintenance agreement with Sinergy.
The Finnish company has also signed a third agreement, with the Gyorho District Heating Co, which has ordered two 18V34SG gas engines, each with an output of 10.9MWh and 12MWe. These engines will be supplied this summer for operation in October and the deal also involves a ten year maintenance agreement.
