Diesel Direct, a provider of on-site diesel re-fueling services, has developed a hybrid diesel-electric fuel delivery truck Freightliner Business Class M2 106 Hybrid in collaboration with Freightliner Trucks using a grant from the Department of Energy Resources.

The hybrid truck, which will be used to deliver fuel to fleets, primarily in Massachusetts, features Eaton Hybrid Electric Drive train System, a parallel hybrid system that enables the truck to operate using the diesel engine alone or in combination with the hybrid electric motor.

The use of Freightliner Business Class M2 106 is expected to contribute to the region’s clean energy economy by saving energy, reducing tailpipe emissions and leading the way for increased use of this hybrid technology in the fuel delivery sector.

Diesel Direct founder and CEO Dan Abrams said that the new electric hybrid truck can shut off the engine while pumping fuel, which not only reduces fuel cost by 30%, but also greatly decreases noise.

“We often pump fuel at night and in residential neighborhoods, so it’s a real benefit. An added bonus is the reduction of greenhouse gasses whenever the motor is not running,” Abrams said.
