With the latest agreement, the two companies will work in the smart grid and smart metering space combining their respective expertise to better serve the utility industry.
The companies will utilize Itron’s smart meter solutions and Deutsche Telekom’s M2M capabilities, as well as Intelligent Networks Energy solution.
Itron EMEA Energy VP and MD said, "This collaboration will give our customers more options and will deliver real business benefits as they roll-out smart meter systems."
The firm will embed Deutsche Telekom’s SIM cards in its GPRS meters and they have already decided on an initial quantity of SIM cards to be deployed.
In addition, the two companies have agreed to cooperate for purposes of creating as well as responding to joint business opportunities in the area of smart energy in European markets.
Deutsche Telekom M2M Competence Center head Jürgen Hase said, "Together with Itron we can offer a complete M2M based solution from hardware to managed connectivity, integration, roll-out and operations services."
